Hosted by the Austin Lion's Club
The Fly-in held at Austin's Airport, August 25th. and 26th, 2007 was judged by all those attending as a great success.  Local
citizens, participant pilots, spectators and members of both the Austin Airport Board and Austin Lions Club were quoted as being very
happy with the activities, numerous aircraft and people attending the fun filled weekend event.
The Lions "all you can eat" steak Bar-B-Q was started off
by a banner tow exhibition, advertising "Steaks Today".
The difficult spot landing competition
(below)  was narrowly won by Austin local,
Jerry Utter (above), who edged out top
bush pilots from several western states.
The People's Choice Award for Best
Aircraft went to a beautifully
restored 1946 Piper J5 "Glacier
Cub" owned by Phil and Danny
Garris of Winnemucca, Nevada.

The award for the longest distance
flown went to John Lamb and
Justin Merriman of Tucson, Arizona.
The other People's Choice Award, Best Fly By, went to Joe and Red Dory
of Boise, Idaho for their entertaining toilet paper shredding routine.
The evening ended with a bonfire, lots of "hangar" flying and about 12 out of the 26 aircraft that flew in, staying and
enjoying Austin for the night.  The next day as pilots were leaving to head home or to fly out to watch the Pony Express 100
car races, the same thing could be heard being said over and over, "See ya next year".
-Commentary by Joe Dory Sr., as posted in the Battle Mountain Bugle
During the course of the afternoon and
evening, Jeff Miller (above) of Caldwell,
Idaho won the flour bombing competition.
He wasn't quite as lucky in the spot landing
competition...maybe NEXT year Jeff.
